Huntington’s Disease Society of America

This event is being hosted by the FUMC Elgin Kitchen Ministry Team. Our own Deborah Harden was diagnosed in April, 2006 with Huntington’s and we feel compelled to help work towards ending HD. On May 20, two ladies from Grand Junction, Co., Charlotte Reicks (age 73) and Marie Nemec (age 64) will kick off their annual bicycle “Ride for the Cure” ride. Their ride changes yearly depending on the location of the annual HDSA Convention. This year, they take off from Clinton, Missouri and will arrive in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on June 5th at the site of the 2008 HDSA Convention. The purpose of the 950-mile ride is to raise awareness of Huntington’s disease and to raise funds for Family Services and research towards a cure. All proceeds will go to the Huntington’s disease Society of America. The Hardens’ have drawn on Marie for support during the last couple of years and the Kitchen Ministry Team has decided to help support this worthwhile cause.
